Home Assistant

The house runs on Home Assistant, entirely on the local network, so the lights still work when the internet doesn't. These are the automations and pieces we'd recommend to anyone. For design tips, dashboard ideas and automation lessons, see the Home Assistant section.

  Porch lights that follow the sun

  On as the sun drops below two degrees, dim through the evening, full brightness on motion, and dark again after bedtime.

• Appliances · Notification

  Laundry notifier

  A power-monitoring plug on the washer and a vibration sensor on the dryer send one message to every phone when a load is finished.

• Safety · Automation

  Leak sensors and water shut-off

  Five moisture sensors and a motorised valve on the main. A leak closes the water and sends a critical alert naming the room.

  Kitchen dashboard

  A wall-mounted tablet showing weather, the family calendar and the state of the house, styled with a Mallow theme for Home Assistant.

• Routine · Script

  Goodnight button

  A small Zigbee button on the nightstand runs one script: lights off, front door locked, thermostat set back, and a spoken list of any doors or windows still open.

• Security · Notification

  Garage door watchdog

  If the garage door has been open for fifteen minutes after dark, phones get an actionable notification with a "Close it" button.

  The site you're reading. Hand-written HTML and one shared stylesheet, deployed to Cloudflare Pages straight from Git, with a strict Content Security Policy and no JavaScript at all.

• Theme · CSS

  Mallow theme for linkding

  A dark forest-and-parchment theme for the self-hosted linkding bookmark manager, built on its CSS custom properties, with frosted panels and the same serif headings as this site.

• Identity · SVG

  Mallow Network identity

  The mountain-and-signal mark, the bracketed <MALLOW NETWORK /> wordmark, horizontal and stacked lockups, and the palette that ties them together.

• Service · Private

  Private Hub

  The front door to the network's private services, protected by a Cloudflare Access sign-in that carries the Mallow Network mark.
